Say”yes”as much as possible

10 May

How fun is that?  I heard myself answer “no” to the question “Mom, can I…..” one day without even thinking about it.  On second thought, why not?  Obviously, kids ask questions all day long that we need to say no to for very good reasons, but sometimes we say no without having a very good reason.  From that day on, I was determined to say yes as often as I possibly could.   The result was that when I did say no, most of the time they accepted it better.

Now, I did cheat a little.  Sometimes I would “create” opportunities that provided me the chance to say yes.  Example: We are driving home from soccer practice and I think it would be a great time to get ice cream at Mcdonald’s.  I drive by Mcdonald’s and say “mmm, I love Mcdonald’s hot fudge sundaes”.   At least one kid would be listening and say….”hey mom, can we get ice cream at Mcdonald’s?”  YES!   It has worked for me.

Love this! I try to do that with my kiddos! It’s hard! But I look for ops too like, I put the cookies out on the counter knowing when my kids see them they will surely ask for one and I love saying YES! Cookie! And the smiles and excitement are the best part of my day!! 🙂
